Southern Utah Real Estate...Housing Starts Down...Sales are Up!

It sure is good to hear Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke say that he expects the national economy to start growing later in the year as he addressed Congress on 5.5.09. It would seem that some of our regional authorities hope to see Southern Utah follow a parallel timeline, if not possibly recovering earlier.
During the first two months of 2009 only 63 permits were filed countywide, a 58 percent decrease from the same time period in 2008. This decline while painful, is an absolute necessity in order to consume the existing inventory of distressed properties…why would anyone build right now, you can buy a new home for less than it would take to build one.
